We have carefully selected our wines using a scoring methodology by Allen Meadows who is an expert on Burgundy wines. The scoring methodology is using a 100 point scale and takes into account purity, elegance, overall balance and clear expression of the underlying terroir are rated more highly than Burgundies that don’t deliver these qualities (other important characteristics include richness, balanced extraction, length and harmony). We select our wines with a score of 88 or more from the "not so obvious" wine makers.

According to Allen Meadows (http://www.burghound.com/), the scores can be interpreted as follows (just a note - finished, bottled wines are assigned specific scores as these wines are market ready and wines tasted from barrel are scored within a range):

95-100: "truly incomparable and emotionally thrilling"
90-94: "outstanding"
85-89: "good to high quality"
80-84: "average to good quality"
75-79 "barely to acceptable quality"
74 and below: "don’t bother"

The following is a short sample of our wine list:

White Wines
2006 Chablis Vieille Vignes (Jean-Marc Brocard)

Allen Meadows’ tasting notes and score : An expressive and intensely fruited nose offers up notes of citrus, white flower and subtle truffle and vegetal nuances that can also be found on the rich, dense and beautifully precise flavors that culminate in a dry and racy finish that is linear and seriously long. While not a wine of refinement, this offers plenty of Chablis character and a vibrant personality. Recommended. [Score: 88-91, Drink: 2011+]

2002 Mearsault "Charmes" 1er Cru (Domaines Matrot)

Allen Meadows’ tasting notes and score : The recent bottling has really knocked down the nose though soft and reticent ripe peach, fennel and pear aromas are present. The flavors however are remarkably vibrant and this exhibits much more minerality and precision than it usually does. In fact, this could easy be mistaken for a fine Perrières and the only give away that it isn't is the relatively luscious and juicy finish. Lovely and classy stuff. [Score: 91, Drink: 2007-12]

2004 Puligny-Montrachet "Les Champs Gains" 1er Cru (Domaine Vincent Dureuil-Janthial)

Allen Meadows’ tasting notes and score : The generous wood this displayed from cask has largely been absorbed, leaving only a trace amount of pain grillé to highlight the elegant white fruit and citrus aromas. The sappy and mouth coating flavors are round and punchy with a deliciously long and mineral-infused finish that packs good punch yet the overall mouth feel is a lacy wine of finesse and refinement. [Score: 91, Drink: 2010+]

Red Wines
2006 Volnay "Les Chanlins" 1er Cru (Domaine d’Ardhuy)

Allen Meadows’ tasting notes and score : An airy, pure and high-toned red pinot fruit nose that reflects obvious minerality merges into detailed, racy and driving flavors that are focused and precise on the mineral-infused finish that has that wonderful quality of underlying tension. This is a strikingly pure and transparent effort that is very Volnay in underlying character. [Score: 91, Drink: 2013+]

2006 Savigny Les Beaune "Aux Clous" 1er Cru (Domaine d’Ardhuy)

Allen Meadows’ tasting notes and score : This is the earthiest and perhaps the most typical in character out of this group of Savigny 1ers with a ripe and moderately sauvage nose where the latter continues onto the rich, full, sweet and equally earthy medium weight plus flavors that are firm and serious yet there is a certain mid-palate tenderness that suggests that 5 to 7 years should see this at its peak. Classic Savigny. [Score: 90, Drink: 2012+]

2004 Echézeaux Grand Cru (Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils)

Allen Meadows’ tasting notes and score : A much more classic nose of spicy black fruit and earth framed by a subtle touch of oak highlights rich, full and youthfully austere flavors that are structured, serious and powerful. The style and content of this is in stark contrast to that of the Clos de Vougeot and distinctly superior. Good stuff here. [Score: 89-92, Drink: 2012+]
